Catch That Gingerbread Man with These Fun Printables!

Sharing is caring!

It’s that time of year again! The time for gingerbread men, candy canes, and all things sweet! But let’s be honest, sometimes those sugary treats can make our little ones a bit too energetic. So why not channel that energy into some fun and educational activities? I’ve got two free gingerbread man printables that are perfect for your kindergarten or first grader. They’re a great way to sneak in some math practice while still embracing the holiday spirit.

What supplies do you need for the Gingerbread Man Printables?

  1. Printed copies of the printables (download links below!)
  2. Pencils
  3. Crayons or markers

Prep Work – Easy Peasy!

  1. Download and print the printables. That’s it! You’re ready to go!

How to Complete the Gingerbread Man Printables:

  • Gingerbread Man Addition Color by Code:
    1. Students solve the addition problems on the gingerbread man.
    2. They use the color code to color the corresponding sections of the gingerbread man. For example, if the answer is 5, they might color that section brown.
  • Gingerbread Man Graphing Printable:
    1. Students identify the different shapes on the gingerbread man and gingerbread house.
    2. They count how many of each shape they find.
    3. They color in the graph to represent the number of each shape.

Bonus Ideas to go along with the printables:

  • Turn it into a game! Have students race to see who can finish their printable first (while still being accurate, of course!).
  • Add some writing! Have students write a story about their gingerbread man or create a word problem to go with the graph.
  • Make it sensory! Use puffy paint or glitter glue to add some texture to the printables.

Adaptations for Different Skill Levels:

  • For younger students: Use simpler addition problems or have them focus on just one shape at a time for the graphing activity.
  • For older students: Create more challenging addition problems or have them create their own graph with different categories.

Extra Gingerbread man Resources:

  • Read the classic story “The Gingerbread Man.” or this fun one with printables: Gingerbread Baby
  • Bake real gingerbread men! (And maybe even let them decorate them with the same shapes from the graphing activity.)
