Too Many Tamales

After you have read or listened to the story have your student work on the different story elements by identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution. Depending on their age, they can either write it or draw it in the boxes.

Since the story is about making tamales it’s the perfect time to work on story sequencing with this graphic organizer.

Get your students talking with this writing paper, where they can share how they would have handled the situation of losing the ring in the tamales.

Your students will have fun answering these discussion questions that will allow them to share about their own traditions and ideas about the story.

Every family has their own Christmas or holiday traditions when it comes to meals. Have your students share what their favorite traditions are using this worksheet.

Finish up the lesson by working on their money counting skills. They can pretend that Maria needs to go the grocery store to purchase the items for making tamales. Count the coins in each box and decide what item she can buy with that amount.
