What is the Dinosaur Shape Matching Game?

Preschoolers are going to love the bright and colorful geometric dinosaurs that are a part of this game. Each dinosaur has a matching shape card with the name of the shape on it. This game can be played in multiple ways:

How to Play (The Classic Way)

  1. Spread out the cards: Lay all the cards face down on a table or the floor.
  2. Take turns: Players take turns flipping over two cards at a time.
  3. Match and win: If the cards match (dinosaur/shape to shape/name), the player keeps the pair and gets another turn. If they don’t match, the cards are flipped back over.
  4. Game over: The game ends when all the matches have been found. The player with the most pairs wins!

What Shapes are included in the game?

All of the following shapes are included in the matching card game:

  • Circle
  • Oval
  • Star
  • Heart
  • Pentagon
  • Hexagon
  • Octagon
  • Diamond
  • Rectangle
  • Square

Game Variations & Extensions

  • Memory Match: Play the classic memory game style by focusing only on the dinosaur/shape cards.
  • Shape Sorting: Have your child sort the cards into piles based on the shapes.
  • Dinosaur Stomp: Spread the cards out and call out a dinosaur or shape. Have your child “stomp” on the correct card.
  • Story Time: Use the cards as prompts for creative storytelling. What adventures will your child’s dinosaurs have?

How to adapt the Dinosaur Shape Game for Different Learners

  • For younger players: Start with fewer cards or focus on just a few basic shapes.
  • For older players: Introduce more complex shapes or increase the number of cards for a greater challenge.
  • For children with special needs: Modify the rules or provide visual cues as needed.
