Geography Games for Preschoolers
Teaching geography to littles might sound ambitious, but it doesn’t have to be complicated! In fact, introducing the 7 continents with geography games for preschoolers can be a fun and engaging experience—especially when you use hands-on activities.

How to Introduce the 7 Continents to Preschoolers
Before jumping into activities, it’s helpful to introduce the continents in a way that makes sense to young minds. Here are some simple and engaging ways to do it:
1. Start with a Globe or a Map
Let your child see what the world looks like! Use a globe, world map, or even a large, printed picture of the continents to show them that Earth is divided into different landmasses.
Keep it simple: “The Earth is like a big puzzle with 7 pieces! We call these pieces continents!”
2. Use Songs and Rhymes
Songs are a fantastic way to help kids remember new concepts. Try singing a 7 continents song (you can find plenty on YouTube, like this rap version.) or make up a simple chant:
“North America, South America, Europe and Asia, Africa!
Don’t forget Australia, and Antarctica’s really cold—brrr!”
3. Relate Continents to Animals
Preschoolers love animals, so connecting continents to the animals that live there makes learning relatable and exciting! For example:
- Africa 🦁 = Lions, elephants, giraffes
- Australia 🦘 = Kangaroos, koalas
- Antarctica 🐧 = Penguins
Tip: When reading books or watching nature shows, point out where different animals live and tie it back to their continent!
4. Play Movement Games
Get active with learning! Lay out pieces of paper labeled with each continent around the room. Call out an animal, and have your child hop, run, or waddle to the correct continent.
Example: “Waddle like a penguin to Antarctica!”
