Caterpillar Move and Count Preschool Game
Preschoolers are little bundles of energy, eager to learn through play. If you’re looking for a fun and engaging activity that combines movement, counting, and following directions, this cute Caterpillar Move and Count preschool game is going to be the perfect blend of learning and fun.

What is Caterpillar Move and Count?
This simple game is designed to get those little bodies moving while reinforcing key preschool skills. Here’s how it works:
- Materials:
- You’ll need the Printable caterpillar game board, printable action die, number die and 1 game piece per participant.
- Gameplay:
- Have a child roll both dice.
- The number die indicates how many times they’ll perform the action. For example, a roll of 4 and “clap” means they clap four times.
- For some actions, consider doing them by time. A roll of 3 and “sing” might mean they sing for 3 minutes or sing 3 different songs.
- Once they have completed their actions, they will move their game piece the same number of spaces on the caterpillar that are on the number die.
- The game ends when the player reaches the end of the caterpillar.

Why Caterpillar Move and Count is a Winner
- Skill Development: This game hits on several important areas:
- Gross motor skills: Jumping, dancing, and stomping get those large muscles working.
- Counting: Children practice recognizing numbers and counting out actions.
- Following directions: They learn to listen and respond to instructions.
- Creativity and expression: The “sing” and “dance” actions encourage creative movement and vocalization.
How to Adapt the Count and Move game for Preschoolers
Using the blank die provided, substitute different actions for variety (e.g., hop, wiggle, shake, crawl).
Increase the difficulty by adding a third die with colors or shapes, so children have to perform the action while holding or pointing to something of that color/shape.
Resources for Teaching Counting
