How to Write a Friendly Letter to Grandparents
Our children LOVE to get mail and when they were little, getting a letter from one of their grandparents was like Christmas in our house. And when we took the time to write a letter back it was just as appreciated and loved. For grandparents, a letter from your children is a cherished gift. If you are looking for ideas on how to write a friendly letter to grandparents, then these ideas will get you going in the right direction.
Parts of the Friendly Letter:
- Date: Start by writing the date in the top right corner. This helps them remember when you wrote and makes the letter a keepsake.
- Greeting: Choose a warm salutation for grandma and grandpa, using whatever names they are affectionately referred to as. The greeting can start out with:
- Dear or Dearest
- Hi or Hello
- To my beloved…
- Body: This is where your creativity shines! Share what’s happening in your life.
- Your school adventures: What are you learning? Did you make a cool art project?
- Fun times: What games did you play with your friends? Did you go on any trips?
- Family stuff: How’s your pet doing? Have you learned any new jokes?
- Ask them questions: What did they do this week? Do they have a favorite ice cream flavor?
- Closing: End your letter with a loving farewell. Some options include:
- Love always,
- With love and hugs,
- Thinking of you always,
- Missing you lots,
- Can’t wait to see you,
- Your loving grandchild,
- Signature: Sign your name at the bottom. You can even add a little drawing or doodle for a personal touch.
Additional Friendly Letter Writing Tips:
- Handwriting: Take your time and write neatly. If your handwriting isn’t the best, consider printing.
- Stationery: Choose fun stationery or decorate a plain sheet with drawings or stickers.
- Photos: Include a recent photo of yourself or a special moment you want to share.
- Little Gifts: Tuck in a pressed flower, a small drawing, or a little memento that reminds you of them.
Why Letters Matter
