  • A pencil and a paperclip: For spinning that all-important wheel!
  • A sheet of paper and a pencil: For those brain-boosting word problems.

Prep Work – Easy Peasy!

Good news, folks – this game requires minimal prep! Just print out the game board and the fact cards and cut them out. That’s it! You’re ready to play! (Told ya! it was easy peasy.)

How to Play the Math Fact Game

  1. Each player chooses a game marker and places it on the starting line of the game board.
  2. Players take turns using the pencil and paperclip to spin the wheel.
  3. Solve the addition or subtraction problem shown on the wheel.
  4. Move your game marker to the first space on the board with that answer.
  5. If the spinner lands on a part of the snowman (hat, scarf, etc.), collect that snowman card and answer the word problem on the card.
  6. The first player to either collect all the parts of the snowman AND answer the word problems correctly OR gets to the end of the game board wins the game!

Bonus Ideas to Make it More Fun or Educational

  • Teamwork makes the dream work: Have kids play in pairs, taking turns spinning and solving problems together.
  • Get those wiggles out: Incorporate movement by having kids do a little jump, hop, or silly dance when they land on a snowman part.
  • Level up: Use blank fact cards provided to add in more challenging problems or even multiplication facts for those super-smart cookies.
  • Create a classroom leaderboard: Track who builds their snowman first or who reaches the end of the game board the fastest each week.
