Morning Jumpstarts (Wake Up the Brain)

Start your morning off with some early morning brain boosters that will stimulate early thinking, build vocabulary and memory skills.

Ideas:

  • Daily riddle or brain teaser at breakfast (Grab the Free Printable below)
  • Get a morning walk in while listening to fun upbeat songs about skip counting, the books of the Bible, the order of the presidents or states and capitals.
  • Have a word of the day (this game is so fun!)

Midday Mini Challenges (Sneaky Learning Moments)

Use that mid day slump to sneak in some learning without making it feel academic.

Baking

Ideas:

  • Get them cooking. Have them double your favorite cookie recipe to practice adding fractions, or estimate the costs of ingredients for some practice in estimation and adding.
  • Go on a nature walk and have your children record what they see.
  • Start a story starter jar, place strips of silly story ideas in a jar and let them take turns pulling them out and creating a silly story.

Fuel your kids’ imaginations and natural curiosity with activities that encourage independent thinking and creative expression.

Ideas:

  • Build a lego town that they continue to build on or have daily lego challenges.
  • Make a Why book of questions and work research the answers
  • Have art time a few times a week or month with prompts. Think about turning on music and having your kids “paint the sound of the music” Go outside and draw or paint what they see.

Screen Time that Teaches
