Sports Mania Math Fact Game
Let’s face it, sometimes drilling math facts can be about as exciting as watching paint dry. But with a little creativity, we can turn those practice sessions into something fun and engaging! Today, I’m sharing a sports-themed math fact game that will get your kids excited about multiplication and division. If you are struggling to get your students to want to do math and are having a hard time with word problems, this game will be perfect for those sports enthusiast who are hard to get excited.

Supplies Needed for Game Day!
- Printed game board
- Printed math fact cards
- Printed Spinner
- Game markers (small toys, erasers, or even colorful buttons will do!)
- Pencil
- Paperclip (for spinning the wheel)
- Scratch paper for working out the problem
How to prep for the game:
- Print out the game board and the fact cards on cardstock or regular paper (cardstock will be more durable).
- Cut out the individual fact cards.
- Gather your game markers and pencils.

How to play the Game Day game!
- Set Up: Each player places their game marker on the starting line of the game board.
- Spin and Move: Players take turns spinning the wheel using a pencil and a paperclip. They move their marker forward the number of spaces shown on the wheel.
- Solve a Fact: If a player lands on a space with a sports picture, they pick a math fact card and try to solve it.
- Check Answers: If the player gets the answer right, they stay put. If they get it wrong, they move back 2 spaces. Ouch!
- Race to the Finish: The first player to reach the finish line wins!
Bonus Ideas to make it more fun or educational:
- Team Play: Divide the kids into teams and have them work together to answer the questions.
- Time Challenge: Add a timer to make things more exciting. Can they beat their best time?
- Fact Families: After answering a multiplication question, have the player create the related division fact.
- Create Your Own: Let the kids create their own sports-themed math fact questions to add to the game.
- Use sports themed manipulatives.
Adaptations for different skill levels:
- Beginner: Write the multiplication or division fact on the back of the word problem card so that students don’t have to read. Or create easier math word problems on separate cards.
- Advanced: Include more challenging facts or mix in some 2-digit addition and subtraction problems.
- Visual Learners: Draw pictures or use manipulatives to help kids visualize the problems.
